Madera City Council seeks to fill District 5 vacancy

Residents who would like to serve on the Madera City Council have until 5:00 p.m. Jan. 12, 2021, to apply for an open seat.

On December 2, 2020, the City of Madera City Council authorized the initiation of an appointment process to fill the City Council District 5 seat vacated by Santos Garcia’s election to the Mayor seat. If appointed, the person will serve the remainder of the term until December 2022. Council has not made a final decision on whether the vacancy will be filled by appointment or special election.

Those interested in being considered for an appointment to serve on the City of Madera City Council are invited to apply. To be eligible for appointment, an applicant must reside in District 5  and be registered to vote within the City of Madera when the application is submitted to the City Clerk. Applicants will be required to complete and submit an application form, which will include a questionnaire. Submitted applications and questionnaires will be made available to the public for review.

Applications will be made available on the City of Madera website www.madera.gov/apply or by calling (559) 661-5405, beginning Monday, December 14, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. Completed applications may be submitted electronically to the City Clerk via email at agonzales@madera.gov no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. The City Clerk’s office will be available for in-person drop off by appointment only. Social distancing and masks will be required.
