Congressman John Duarte secures $2 million for vital infrastructure overhaul

At 1:30 pm on Friday, April 26th, Congressman John Duarte will join the City of Madera for an official presentation of $2 million in federal funding for improvements to Madera’s critical storm drainage and sewage infrastructure.

The City of Madera’s Sewer Trunk Main Project will receive $1 million for the rehabilitation and replacement of up to 1.7 miles of sewer trunk main pipelines along Pecan Avenue from Grenada Drive to State Route 99.

The Pecan Avenue sewer main carries 40% of the sewage from the entire city and Madera Community College, as well as the surrounding Madera County service areas of Parkwood and Parksdale, to the local wastewater treatment plant.

Proactive rehabilitation of this pipeline will come at a much lower cost and preserve the integrity, health, and welfare of the city’s residents.

The City of Madera’s Storm Drain Pipeline Replacement Project will receive $1 million to install approximately 10,600 linear feet of permanent underground storm drain pipelines, associated manholes, and storm water inlets and outlets in the community.

These pipelines will be installed along Howard Avenue, Granada Avenue, and West Almond Avenue to help reduce chronic flooding in the area.

“Last year’s floods highlighted how crucial storm drains are to the safety of our city, and the public health of Madera’s residents depends on reliable sewer mains,” said Mayor Santos Garcia. “I’m thankful that $2 million of vital federal investment is coming to Madera to improve our city’s critical infrastructure. The City of Madera looks forward to hosting the community for this check presentation.”

“The safety of our Valley communities is my number one priority,” said Congressman Duarte. “I was proud to advocate for $2 million in federal funding for upgrades to Madera’s vital infrastructure that protects my constituents from chronic flooding and provides them with the safe and reliable sewer service they expect and deserve.”

The funding presentation will take place outdoors on the front steps of Madera City Hall.
