- Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is an advanced journey level class responsible for the City’s payroll processing, distribution and required reporting including records maintenance, management, and the preparation of payroll reports in accordance with union agreements and City, state, and federal rules and regulations. Incumbents exercise considerable judgment in decision-making in day-to-day payroll operations. The Payroll Specialist performs the full array of para-professional accounting duties involved in the processing of payroll and the maintenance of the payroll system, reviews and reconciles payroll reports and prepares journal entries, and provides information to departments and employees regarding payroll issues. The payroll division is comprised of two Payroll Specialists and this recruitment will fill one current vacancy.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Director of Financial Services is a key, at will department head position that accepts full responsibility for the City’s utility billing, business licensing, general accounting, expenditure controls, purchasing, grants administration, and maintenance of the City’s investment portfolio. The Public Works Operations Director is a critical department head position and a key member of the City Manager’s operations team. The Department is staffed with 61 full-time and 5 part-time employees and consists of five (5) divisions: Administration, including management of the Solid Waste contract and the City’s general aviation airport; Streets & Storm Drainage; Electrical & Facilities; Water & Sewer; and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Police Officer Trainee is a trainee class responsible for attending a basic academy course of study necessary to gain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved peace officer status. This position is not intended as a permanent appointment, and those not appointed the class of Police Officer after successful completion of the law enforcement academy are rejected during probation.
