School District and City partner to bring Vision Leadership Academy to youth

Madera High Vision Leadership Academy

The Madera Unified School District and the City of Madera have partnered to bring the Vision Leadership Academy to the future leaders of our community. Students will attend 6 sessions that will explore the fundamentals of local government, including presentations from the City’s Fire, Police, Parks, and Revitalization departments.

Mayor Andy Medellin joined City Council members Charles Rigby, Will Oliver, and City Administrator David Tooley Wednesday morning at Madera High School to kick things off. Graduates of the academy will have the opportunity to be entered into a drawing for a scholarship award.

Instilling the importance of shared civic values and fostering youth development of civic skills is not only fundamental to the vitality of our democratic processes, but it also serves to prepare youth to succeed in college and careers by cultivating 21st century skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration abilities.

Together, we envision youth in their community as the leaders of tomorrow that will move our city forward.
