Pedestrian hybrid beacon activated at Stadium Road and Gary Lane
The new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) recently installed at Stadium Road and Gary Lane was activated earlier today. Also known as a HAWK signal, a PHB is a traffic control device that makes it safer and more accessible for pedestrians to cross busy streets.
While similar in look and design to a regular traffic signal, a PHB is used to warn and control traffic at a crosswalk in busy areas only when activated by pedestrians crossing the street. When activated, the beacon displays a sequence of flashing and solid lights that indicate the pedestrian walk interval and notifies drivers when it is safe to proceed.
The project was funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Local Transportation Funds (LTF), and RSTP Exchange funds. To view a demonstration video that demonstrates how PHBs work, visit
