New state-of-the-art fire station opens in Madera



Fire Station No. 58, a new $6.5 million project funded by Measure K, a half-cent public safety sales tax passed by voters in 2016, is the first new fire station built in the city in more than 40 years.

 

The City of Madera is pleased to announce that Fire Station No. 58, the first built in the City since 1978, has officially been brought online.

Station 58 is located at the southwest corner of Aviation Drive and Condor Avenue, just west of State Route 99. Designed with an architectural aesthetic inspired by the neighboring Madera Municipal Airport, the 9,020 square-foot state-of-the-art facility features three apparatus bays, a sleeping area for up to 10 personnel, a kitchen, a day room, an exercise facility, and a training room. Built with firefighter health and wellness in mind, the station includes safety features that reduce firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens and hazardous vehicle emissions and is also equipped with a HeartSmart fire department alerting system.

“This is the people’s fire station. Our community is invested in ensuring that public safety continues to be our top priority,” said Councilmember Cece Gallegos. “The investments we’re making in our community today will protect and enhance the quality of life for our residents for years to come. This new fire station will improve emergency response times and ensure that we have the resources necessary to protect our growing city.”

Funding for construction of the station, a new Rosenbauer 102-foot aerial ladder truck, and assigned personnel comes from Measure K, a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in November 2016. Three full-time personnel, including (1) Fire Captain, (1) Fire Apparatus Engineer, and (1) Firefighter will staff the site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“This new fire station marks a huge milestone in Madera City history, exemplifies the City’s greatness, and demonstrates strong forward progression,” said Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Watson. “We thank the citizens of Madera for making this amazing fire station possible.” An official ribbon-cutting ceremony where Fire Station No. 58 will be dedicated to Madera’s citizens will be held once public health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic are resolved. Fire Station No. 58 began responding to calls on November 30, 2020.
