Madera announces participation in 2017 National Night Out

The City of Madera announced that it will once again participate in the National Association of Town Watch’s annual National Night Out campaign, this year, unveiling plans to host two special community-focused events.

The first event – National Night Out – will take place on August 1st, 2017, and will focus on uniting neighbors in neighborhoods. Registered neighborhoods will host a variety of events ranging from small potlucks and BBQ’s to large block parties and ice-cream socials. Registration is free and gives law-enforcement and other city representatives an opportunity to attend local events as time and circumstances permit. Madera residents interested in registering their neighborhoods for National Night Out may do so online at https://nno.madera.city, but must do so before the deadline of Friday, July 14, 2017.

The second event – National Night Out: Connect – hosted by the Madera Police Department – will take place on August 3rd, 2017, at the Madera Fairgrounds and will provide engaged neighborhoods and future participants the opportunity to network with one another at one centralized location. FREE admission, FREE parking, and FREE food (from 5:00 to 6:30pm). Best described as “the largest block party ever thrown in the City of Madera” – National Night Out: Connect will be a fun-filled family night complete with games provided by the City’s Parks & Community Services Department, and will also feature giveaways, law enforcement demonstrations (including K-9 and Motor), and other family oriented activities coordinated by the Madera Police Department, with participation from neighboring agencies such as the California Highway Patrol, the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, Madera County Probation, Code Enforcement and other supporting law-enforcement agencies.

“Madera’s engagement with Neighborhood Watch and community policing has been increasing over the years,” said Madera Mayor, Andy Medellin. “The community responded with a willingness to work together with our elected officials, law enforcement, code enforcement, and other departments to continue making Madera a safe and healthy place to live. National Night Out is no different,” said Medellin, “Each year more and more neighborhoods are willing to participate and show that they want to be part of the community where they live and play. They are willing to step up to the neighborhood, keep open lines of communication with city leaders and work together with law enforcement to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of our community.”
