City to begin Housing Element Update

The Housing Element is a critical part of the City’s General Plan and serves as the principal guide for housing programs and strategies to address housing needs. It is required by California state law, and each City and County must update it every eight years. Madera is currently updating its 6th cycle Housing Element for the years 2024-2032 and invites community participation through outreach meetings, pro- viding input, and staying up to date on progress. The Housing Element is subject to detailed statutory requirements and mandatory review by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
