Have you ever wondered how local government works behind the scenes? The Madera Citizens Academy is a citywide educational program designed to provide residents with an inside look at how the City of Madera operates and delivers services to the community.
Designed for neighborhood leaders, business representatives, community organization members, and residents interested in becoming more engaged, the program provides an introduction to City departments, services, and public processes. The only prerequisite for participation is an interest in learning more about the City and contributing to its future.
Citizens Academies are designed to strengthen communication between local government and residents, provide insight into public processes, and encourage civic engagement. The Madera Citizens Academy serves as a starting point for individuals interested in becoming more involved in their community, including opportunities to serve on boards, commissions, or in other civic roles.
Program sessions will cover topics including the role of the City Council, City operations, public safety, parks and recreation, finance, and community development. Each session will last approximately one and a half hours, with additional time available for discussion and questions.
There is no cost to participate in the Madera Citizens Academy. The program is open to all Madera residents; however, space is limited. If you are interested in learning more about your local government and becoming more involved in your community, the Citizens Academy is a great place to start.
