Civil Service Commission

The Civil Service Commission is composed of seven members, each appointed by the Madera City Council to serve four-year terms. Commissioners must be residents of the City of Madera and may not be employed by the City or under the direct supervision of any current Council Member.

Meetings are held as needed, typically on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room, located at 205 W. 4th Street, Madera, CA 93637. All meetings are open to the public.

What the Civil Service Commission Does

The Civil Service Commission provides oversight and guidance in the administration of the City’s classified service system. Its primary responsibilities include:

• Certifying eligibility lists for the hiring of classified City employees
• Conducting appeal hearings regarding disciplinary actions or alleged violations of Civil Service Rules
• Reviewing personnel matters referred by the City Council or City Administrator
• Making recommendations on other issues related to human resources administration
