Hiring Bonus Program:

Candidates being considered for eligible positions may qualify for a $35,000 hiring bonus, to be paid in 3 installments: $15,000 at hire, $10,000 at year 1 anniversary, and $10,000 at year 2 anniversary. Those participating in the Hiring Bonus Program are expected to make a 3-year commitment to the City of Madera. Eligible positions include lateral Police Officers, lateral Public Safety Dispatchers, and licensed Civil Engineers. Please refer to the Hiring Bonus Program policy document for more details.

Pay rates for all individuals employed by the City of Madera are adopted by City Council resolution. A summary table of all currently approved pay rates can be found below:

Compensation and Benefits:

The City of Madera’s labor relations processes is governed by the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act (MMBA). In compliance with MMBA, the City’s labor relations officer meets and confers with the various bargaining units to negotiate wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for all represented City employees based on bargaining authority provided by the City Council. These negotiations result in memorandums of understanding (MOUs) regarding these topics, which can be found below. Additionally, pay and benefits for unrepresented positions are approved by resolution of the City Council and can also be found below.
