Successor Agency
The Successor Agency was created as a result of the California Supreme Court's decision on December 29, 2011, which upheld ABx1 26. This legislation eliminated all redevelopment agencies in California and established a process for winding down their operations.
The City of Madera has taken the following actions to facilitate the wind-down of the former Madera Redevelopment Agency:
On January 11, 2012, the Madera City Council adopted Resolutions MRA-1497 and CC 12-08, electing to serve as the Successor Agency to the former Madera Redevelopment Agency. The Successor Agency is authorized to pay enforceable obligations and manage the dissolution and wind-down process of the former Redevelopment Agency.
The Successor Agency became operative on February 1, 2012. All assets, properties, contracts, and records of the former Redevelopment Agency were transferred to the Successor Agency for administration. Additionally, the City Council approved the appointment of former Redevelopment Agency staff to the Successor Agency by Resolution CC 12-28.
The Madera City Council serves as the governing board of the Successor Agency, which functions as a legally separate unit of local government.
