Land Use Compatibility

The Madera Countywide Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) provides the framework for ensuring safe and compatible development around the Madera Municipal Airport. The plan was adopted by the Madera County Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC), which is composed of the Madera County Planning Commission plus two aviation experts.

The primary purpose of the ALUCP is to promote compatibility between airport operations and surrounding land uses. This is achieved by establishing criteria for evaluating proposed development within the Airport Influence Area (AIA)—the area extending roughly 1 to 2.5 miles from the airport runways. Within this area, development proposals are reviewed for consistency with the ALUCP’s safety, noise, and overflight policies.

The ALUCP serves as a planning tool for the City of Madera, Madera County, and other local agencies to ensure that future growth aligns with airport safety and operational needs. It is important to note that the ALUCP does not regulate existing land uses or airport operations; rather, it applies to new development proposals that fall within the designated influence area.

By maintaining this balance, the ALUCP helps protect the long-term viability of the Madera Municipal Airport while supporting safe and sustainable community development.
