Urban Water Management Plan
Urban Water Management Plan
The California Water Code requires urban water suppliers to prepare and adopt an Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) every five years. These plans must comply with the Urban Water Management Planning Act (UWMPA) of 1983, including all amendments and applicable regulations.
Urban water suppliers serving 3,000 or more service connections or delivering over 3,000 acre-feet of water per year are required to submit a UWMP to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR).
The purpose of the UWMP is to:
- Ensure the efficient use of urban water supplies
- Support and promote long-term water conservation policies
- Confirm the availability of sufficient water supplies for future growth
- Establish strategies for responding to drought and emergency water shortages
The City of Madera's 2020 UWMP was prepared in accordance with the 2020 Urban Water Management Plan Guidebook published by DWR. The Plan outlines how the City will manage and secure water resources for current and future needs and is organized into ten key sections covering system demands, supply reliability, conservation measures, contingency planning, and more.
