Madera police launch “A Star of Hope” to brighten the holidays for children in need

Police officers gather in front of a Christmas tree and pose with Santa

The Madera Police Department has launched “A Star of Hope,” a holiday giving program that supports local children facing difficult circumstances. In partnership with the Community Action Partnership of Madera County, Madera County Child Protective Services, and Community West Bank, the initiative invites residents to help bring comfort and joy to kids who may not otherwise receive much during the season.

Community members can take part by adopting a child for the holidays. Display trees at participating locations feature stars, and each star includes gift details so donors can provide thoughtful, personalized support.

Police Chief Gino Chiaramonte said the effort reflects the department’s commitment to caring for families in ways that go beyond traditional public safety work.

“For many of these kids, a small act of kindness can mean the world,” Chiaramonte said. “This program gives our community a chance to remind them they matter and that they’re not alone.”

The department encourages anyone who is able to participate to visit one of the locations, pick a star, and help make a child’s holiday a little brighter. All donated gifts must be returned by December 16 so the Police Department has enough time to organize and prepare them for families ahead of the holiday.

When the community rallies, even small acts of kindness can create lasting memories for children.
