Councilmember Elsa Mejía honored with Mexicanos Distinguidos Award

At the Madera City Council meeting on December 3, 2025, Councilmember Elsa Mejía received the prestigious Mexicanos Distinguidos Award from the Consulado de México en Fresno. She was also presented with certificates of recognition from State Senator Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, along with a proclamation from the City of Madera.
Mejía, the first Latina of Indigenous origin elected to public office in the United States, has been a tireless advocate for Mexican migrant communities, promoting initiatives that recognize and support their contributions to Madera. The Mexicanos Distinguidos Award recognizes Mexican nationals abroad who achieve excellence and bring pride to Mexico.
The City of Madera and its residents join in celebrating Councilmember Mejía’s leadership, dedication, and the honor this recognition brings to the community.
