Citywide curbside cleanup to kick off in February

The City of Madera is bringing back its popular Citywide Curbside Cleanup program next month, helping residents remove excess trash, bulky items, and materials not collected during regular weekly service.

The program is available to single-family homes within city limits and does not include unincorporated areas of Madera County, multi-family dwellings, or commercial businesses.

Residents can begin placing debris in front of their homes up to three days before their scheduled pickup date. Piles should not exceed 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet—roughly the size of one truckload—and should be placed at least six inches from the curb to avoid blocking sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes, and fire hydrants. All loose debris must be bagged or boxed, and items should be sorted by category, including general trash, appliances, mattresses, electronics, and green waste. Outdoor basketball hoops should be temporarily relocated from the street until the cleanup concludes to allow crews safe access to debris and prevent the hoops from being accidentally damaged or collected.

Certain items will not be collected, including lawnmowers, auto parts, construction materials, hazardous chemicals, paint, batteries, tires, and items over 150 pounds or 4 feet in length. Ineligible items left at the curb must be removed by residents within 24 hours. Household hazardous waste can be disposed of through the Madera County Fairmead Landfill at 1 (559) 665‑7300. For program questions, residents may contact Mid Valley Disposal at 1 (559) 268‑0734.

The city is divided into two cleanup zones, with detailed schedules and neighborhood maps mailed to residents and posted online at least one week before service begins. Schedules are not published more than two weeks in advance to help prevent illegal dumping and protect neighborhood safety. Zone 1 covers North and East Madera, while Zone 2 includes Southwest Madera.

Residents can view and download the official event flyer here: 2026 Citywide Curbside Cleanup Flyer (PDF).

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the program to safely and responsibly dispose of bulky items and excess debris. Participation helps keep neighborhoods clean, maintain public safety, and support the city’s ongoing efforts to protect the community environment. Watch for your zone schedule in the mail and in your utility bill to be ready for your pickup day.
