FMCOC Homeless Point in Time Count (Training)

The Fresno Madera Continuum of Care (FMCoC) is an organized, local planning body that provides a comprehensive, coordinated homeless housing and services delivery system. The FMCoC has been supported by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Built for Zero: Fresno/Madera campaign and local agencies in their commitment to end chronic, Veteran and all homelessness.

To adequately assist homeless persons to make the critical transition from homelessness to independent or supportive permanent housing the FMCoC must understand the regions homeless population. During the last ten days of January, the FMCoC conducts a Point-in-Time (PIT) count to get a statistically reliable, unduplicated count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals and families in the U.S within Fresno and Madera Counties.

In order for the Point-in-Time Count to be successful, it will take an effort to recruit and train volunteers to canvas Fresno and Madera County streets and shelters to survey the county’s most vulnerable homeless individuals and families. Your participation in this data collection is important because it assists us in understanding the extent of homelessness and changes among this population, measuring local performance and progress toward ending homelessness, planning future services and resources, complying with reporting requirements from funders and generating public awareness and education.

What we learn during this week will assists us in understanding the extent of homelessness and changes among this population, measuring local performance and progress toward ending homelessness, planning future services and resources, complying with reporting requirements from funders and generating public awareness and education.
